Omawumi

Born to Chief Dr Frank and Mrs Aya Megbele on the 13th of April 1982, Omawumi had her primary and secondary education in Warri, Delta State and headed on to Ambrose Alli University (former Edo State University) Ekpoma, Edo State where she got a Degree in Law.

After she graduated in 2005, she moved to Port-Harcourt,
Rivers State where she worked with her family law firm called O.S Megbele & Associates while studying French in Alliiance Francaise

On the 26th Day of January 2007, Omawumi auditioned for the West African version of an internationally acclaimed TV show tagged ‘IDOLS WEST AFRICA’.

Omawumi with her strong voice and out-going personality dazzled the millions of viewers across the continent with each ‘spectacular’ and was voted the 1ST RUNNER UP of IDOLS WEST AFRICA when the competition ended in May 2007.

Since then she has numerous performances on the stage with top local acts like D'Banj, Tuface, P-Square, M.I, Banky W, Sasha, Dagrin and 9ice and International acts like Chaka Demus and Pliers, Carl Thomas, Angie Stone and Donnel Jones to her belt.

Omawumi has also veered into the theatre as She was amongst the cast for the 2009 edition of the V-Monolugues (a highly reputed play that reflects the negative issues affecting women in Nigeria), amongst other plays and she has also written and done vocals for theme songs and these include songs for MTN, Zain, Guinness and the theme song for Malta Guinness ‘Top of The World Goodness’ campaign.

She has been nominated severally for many awards and has won many awards as well internationally and locally including the most coveted prize of the HIPHOP WORLD AWARDS (HHWA) 2009-NextRated and Best Vocal Performance (Female).

Omawumi is a diversity of talents and she is also bilingual (French and English). Her hobbies are reading, writing and of course singing!
